Communal kindergartens and daycare centres are financed out of taxpayers’ money, which means that the council’s aspirations to transparency at these facilities are very high. For example, to provide an overview of the personnel, facility and operating costs at the individual centres and various locations, the information obtained often needs to undergo specific processing. However, the data have often been documented in systems that were not interconnected. To achieve more transparency, the city of Klagenfurt has now introduced edkis, eurodata’s K<\/u>indergarten I<\/u>nformation S<\/u>ystem.<\/p>\n
The introduction of edkis was preceded by a joint project in which the experts from eurodata worked together with those responsible in Klagenfurt to define which data are important and how they should be recorded and presented. Now, in edkis, the funding providers of the kindergartens can manage all their locations, kindergarten groups and teachers etc., enter municipal planning requirements, and register for a review of their finance data (incl. supporting documents) as well.<\/p>\n
What is more, when an audit is due, external auditors can be given direct access to edkis so that they can carry out their inspection without complications and without a lot of extra work. Because the feedback on edkis was so positive during the test phase, there is now a plan to incorporate kindergartens which are run directly by the city in edkis in the future too. The aim is to administer both external and municipal kindergartens at a single, centralised hub.<\/p>\n
